A privately fostered child is a child under 16 (or under 18 if the child has a disability) cared for and accomodated by someone other than:
The arrangement must be for a for a period intended to last more than 28 days. Private fostering arrangements are quite separate from arrangements made by local authority for ‘Children Looked After’ and living with Foster Carers.
The Children (Private Arrangements for Fostering) Regulations 2005 has reinforced the requirement laid down in the Children Act 1989 for people who are privately fostering to notify the local authority.
